100 Words on Evolution

100 Word Challenge

It’s raining for the first time in days. I had gotten used to the sun. First day of school and the buses are stopping and starting, clogging up traffic. The college students are back, clogging up the cafes, the bars, the restaurants, and the stores. Everything just the same every year. Not me. I need an evolution revolution up in here, so I’m going to start Tribal Fusion belly dancing lessons the day after my birthday. Behold the mesmerizing Rachel Brice, known for her boneless arm stylings and her freakish undulating belly. In four days I begin my next transformation.

My pick of the week is mysterious Adam’s take on artists.

Human minds are originally unwritten and each develops uniquely. Thus each human life (like the universe itself) contains unlimited potential for developmental variation. The mind is a microcosm, its thoughts the DNA. Minds which hold some appeal to the common denominator are consumed by the masses and prosper, while those which stray too far from the norm are be considered mutations.

The Artist, for example, is a beautifully tragic freak floating above the ambient level of awareness. Misunderstood, even to himself, and all too aware of it. Unhappy and quick to escapism, mania, and suicide. Wholly unfit for the world.

I think it has something to do with that I also like this quote (also found on Adam’s blog): “The thing I hate the most about advertising is that it attracts all the bright, creative and ambitious young people, leaving us mainly with the slow and self-obsessed to become our artists. Modern art is a disaster area. Never in the field of human history has so much been used by so many to say so little.” ~Bansky

I find that charming coming from an artist. Now, there’s more. Remember to visit these people, show them some comment love, and remember your blog manners!

Finally, we have a bit of a mystery. Who is Clint? Why doesn’t he have a blog? If he doesn’t have a blog, how did he find this one? It’s a mystery, and since I don’t know how to link to a comment, I’m cutting and pasting his entry here. Whoever you are Clint, glad to have you on board!

It’s the process through time of making things easier, more convenient, and sustainable. Pull yourself back into history a few hundred years. Envision a gentleman in a comfortable chair lighting a hickory pipe filled with exotic tobacco from a strange land he can’t even pronounce. Now jump forward and see a man rolling a similar tobacco in a fine piece of paper. Now come back to the present. You’re in a factory filled with whirring machines stamping and rolling cigarettes, hundreds per minute, perfectly cylindrical, each the same length and girth. You’ve just witnessed the evolution of killing yourself slowly.

And this week’s word?

Fusion

With love,

Your comments are never, ever, lost in the crowd. Comments come to me individually, in email and I see and read each and every one. But some comments, SOME comments are more eagerly looked for, cause a quickening of the pulse when the email shows up, and have greater impact and influence for their rarity. Some.

Besides, if that really is a concern, you can always email me directly.

Far out. I never meant to create any hub bub over my reluctance to put words I wrote in front of someone to judge. Intimidating may be too strong. I just felt at the time, the few I had read were so well done, could I rise to that level? The fact I have a blog and post to it almost on a regular basis should indicate I am not afraid to write in front of others. It’s just the “contest thing” I guess. Competition. Looking over the line up of punks the captain is picking and wondering, no, hoping I will not be picked last.

Your contest is as I said earlier, wonderful exercise to help make me write better. It is to satisfy my Jones to write that I do this. I just like the act of creating with words. Keeping it to 100 words is one way to do that.

    @Lceel, thanks. :)

@MRMacrum, glad to hear it. Rock on, write on.

@Melissa, glad you like the pick of the week and I hope you were extra bloggy lovey!

@Ninja, yeah, art ninja sytle. I would love to walk around a corner and be face to face with a Bansky piece that wasn’t there the night before.

@NightBlogger, fusion doesn’t have to be about Bio. In fact, even as a science term, it generally refers to nuclear fusion which wouldn’t be a Bio term anyway. It can be a blending of styles (like “Tribal Fusion”), or of ideas, or of something physical. You can play with the meaning. Consider that one meaning is the use of extreme heat to blend two substances. Think about the heat of passion and the blending of two bodies, two souls. These challenges can be much more than the limiting to 100 words, but also a chance to think about things differently than what first comes to mind. That in itself is interesting too…to see how different people think about a word, but you can break out of the box if you choose.

I’m leaving in the morning and won’t be back for several days so I found time to put together 100 Words on Fusion — I’m glad you wrote to NightBlogger — made me feel better about what I’ve written. And I hope it’s okay; I have two very different 100 Words written. So any time drop by.

Look forward to seeing that post, and what the next word is. Crazy, ya know, but I just can’t continue that series without your help—I need YOU to pick the word, I just can’t do it on my own! I hope that doesn’t put too much pressure on you—but their story follows what you pick. Crazy crazy crazy. :-P
