100 Words on Faster
Good day Internet. I’m writing today from my favorite local cafe. A vegan sweet spot with orange walls, giant windows, a clanging open kitchen, and friendly people. I made myself comfortable in my favorite red corduroy lounge chair with ottoman. It’s hard to describe, but it is comfy as hell. A couple of (approaching) elderly women were sitting at a table nearby when they noticed me settling in. One smiled and said, “Wow, that looks comfortable!” I smiled back, “it is”.
Then we were suddenly connected for a moment, falling into the roles of grandmothers and a young(ish) woman. They asked me if I would like them to get me anything before they left, “a sandwich or something?”. I laughed. “No thanks”, and then sank deeper into the red corduroy, letting the sun warm my smiling face.
This week, Sleep Deprivation Ninja wins the favorite spot for the 100 word writing prompt and challenge, “Faster”. His whole writing style absolutely captured the increasing speed of our culture. Witness his mastery:
The neon-synth populous drinks elixir made from rainforest frog saliva. It carries our fantasies to fruition upon the lamp-lit phosphorescence we call dreams, visions, sacred moments of inhibition. We dance to the music of the modern mystic, the digital shaman, broadcast bright, symphonies of light, binary beeps and photon pulses. Tune in, zone out, dig it. It’s all abstractions and mental mischief, merging our ideas into syncopated steps. Adrenaline pumping, skin touching, blood rushing, it all blends in and bleeds out faster and more furious until finally it crashes into a frenzied crescendo and POP.
We have become a singularity.

Was just going to say: I’m not actually from Sweden. I moved from the US to Finland when I was 12, learned Swedish there, and am now moving to Denmark so rather complicated…
Ok, I’ve gotten my 100 Words written and ready for viewing. A bit of fiction again this week.

I don’t know if you accept entries through comments like this, but it’s all I have really. Here it is.
It’s the process through time of making things easier, more convenient, and sustainable. Pull yourself back into history a few hundred years. Envision a gentleman in a comfortable chair lighting a hickory pipe filled with exotic tobacco from a strange land he can’t even pronounce. Now jump forward and see a man rolling a similar tobacco in a fine piece of paper. Now come back to the present. You’re in a factory filled with whirring machines stamping and rolling cigarettes, hundreds per minute, perfectly cylindrical, each the same length and girth. You’ve just witnessed the evolution of killing yourself slowly.
Wow, you have been busy since I got home!!! I will have both my entries for Fresh and Faster up soon. Not sure how fast you will get Evolution (hey, did I just make a funny?), but it will get here soon. Fresh and Faster have some of the same characters as Treasures and Pillar did, but I don’t know yet if Evolution will fit in their story. That’s okay—we need something fresh soon (ha ha, did I make another funny?).
And it’s amazing, because when I sat down here 45 minutes ago, the Faster piece didn’t even exist. Now I’m happy enough to post that. This weekend, if not at the beginning of the week. I just have to type out Fresh. What am I waiting for?
