The purpose of a blog seems self-evident. Don’t call me on my narcissistic tendencies.

Those Annoying Injured People

“Here’s the evening traffic report. Things are good right up until exit 13 where you will be slowed to an annoying crawl by a couple of selfish dolts who decided to get in an accident, right when you need to get home. Not to worry, the authorities are quickly working on clearing out the rubble and human remains so it doesn’t look like you’ll miss your favorite episode of Will and Grace after all. Tune in tomorrow morning to find out who’s lives will be forever altered at the expense of your convenience.”

Sigh.

Oh no. The drive home was fine. I was just struck by the irony that when they do the traffic report, they report that traffic is slow due to an accident and they report it as an INCONVENIENCE to the other commuters. I just thought it was kind of sick.

What can you do?? Would that everyone lived by the mantra I taught my sons: “Treat everyone you meet with love, kindness and understanding.” There is no love, or kindness, or understanding in traffic reports, especially those that deal with the delays caused by ‘gaper’s blocks’. There’s no sympathy expressed for the fact that someone’s husband or wife or son or daughter is possibly injured or even worse, killed. Would we not be better served if all traffic reporters, everywhere, were required to watch the Free Hugs video at the start of every business day??

Lceel - precisely. We get so caught up in our own personal convenience that we forget to think that someone’s life has just been altered, even if it’s just having to get the front bumper replaced and deal with insurance.

I would be thrilled and horrified if they actually told the truth like this. Could you imagine?

Hello the lovely Ttractor, tis true, it would be a bit horrifying. On the other hand, perhaps it would wake people up a little bit.
